The unit of 128 speed walks very seemingly 1 medium square (a square of 128 points) in one second, but you could notice that an unit with 256 speed does not cover 2 squares (it walks 230 but not 256, 26 points less) in one second, and an unit with 512 speed will walk much less distance than 4 squares (it walks 312 instead of 512, 200 points less). None of these maps have a definitive version, but because there were so many many versions being hosted at once 24/7, that is why they're at the top. This especially applies to the Maul, Footmen, and LoaP maps. I've decided to merge versions of maps all into one, even if they're a bit stretching. The difference is that AW isn't hosted nearly as much as any in the top 10.
From what I see, only DotA and Legion TD a bigger dedicated kind of following. For example, Azeroth Wars has had a very strong following across various forums, youtube channels, and twitch streams. This is why Survival Chaos and Holy War, arguably top 100 maps today, aren't up there yet - since it was made roughly 2 or 3 years ago. It is the only map in the top 100 to be released after 2010, however. We know that it's probably been the most played strategy map for the past 3 years, but it doesn't offset the past 15 years of Warcraft 3 strategy maps. You may ask why Lordaeron the Aftermath is low on the list. Plus, ENT's been around since 2011 or 2012, not having statistics for how the older custom game scene was like. Also, ENT hosts one Risk lobby, but there are others that also do the same. For example, ENT does not host any Vampirism maps, but many others do. You can't base a majority of statistics on an ENT list because while it is the biggest hosting group, it's not without competition. But each host of Island Defense = 11 players. For example, Burbenog is really high on the ENT list because it's popular of course, but it has the advantage of starting with 4 players. Some maps require more players than others.
